Hotel Review : Veranda Resort & Spa Hua Hin

We decided to take our entire family of 5 adults and 1 Chid to Veranda Hua Hin where we ended up by combining rooms, upgrading and paying a bit extra for additional person for the 2 Bed Room Pool Villa for 4 Days and 3 nights.

This is actually our second visit here and we decided to come back because our first visit was amazing and that was when our daughter was about a year old [She’s now 2 years Old]. Also note that we had previously in the past year stayed at all the other Veranda Hotels in Thailand including Chiang Mai and Pattaya, so we had standardized expectations of what was to come.

Room

For the most part everything was as expected and attentive to all of our needs. Check-In was smooth with our butler walking us to our room introducing all the facilities in a very well matter. We arrived to our room and were happy with what was a beautifully decorated contemporary modern designed room with some Thai accents. The living area was a good size with a free mini bar for soft drinks. The Master bedroom was spacious with an amazing master bathroom with a indoor Jacuzzi where several of us used. The second bedroom is on the second level apart of the living room with it’s own bathroom. The room for the most part is great and beautiful for a family! However, the second bedroom where you have to walk up some stairs is questionable in regards to safety especially if you have little children because there are some rails but some parts just don’t have any partitions leaving it prone to kids possibly falling from the second floor [Not a big issues but just saying it’ could be dangerous]. As also with most hotels once you start staying for awhile in a room you begin to notice it’s faults some of the problems that we had with the room were water leaking from the shower in both rooms, water pressure on the first floor, some power outages [happened once], and just the room showing some signs of aging.

The private pool in our room was absolutely amazing! We loved and really enjoyed every part of it especially taking amazing pictures for social media 🙂 I do want to give a tip to anyone planning to stay in this type of room to be aware and ask for a room that there isn’t a tree in the middle as that means there will be tons of leaves falling, worms, and some other insects while you lay on the day bed.

Facilities

Fitness – Serves it’s purpose but is extremely small with limited equipment. I’d say you can fit no more than 3 people after that it’s just going to be too packed

Kids Club – There is one but it’s in need of lots of renovation… some of those toys are just sad to look at…. May be need to get some new things and re-paint the room?

Pool – This is probably the main highlights of the hotel itself. Worth spending the entire day with amazing views of the beach with great pool side service. There are lots of cool features including a slide, water fountains, and water fountain tunnels. There is even a little sand area for children to play in next to the pool but I do feel that needs to be a bit more maintained as it does look a bit dirty. Also there are lots of nice seating areas around the pool including some that are under this huge tree which gives good shade during bright sunlight times.

Beach – Clean, wide, and open to the public. This is not a private beach but it’s an amazing one! True the waters at Hua Hin are not clear blue like what you’d picture it to be … but this beach is still very nice , clean and well maintained. There are even day beds for those who like sun tanning!

FOOD

Breakfast In Room – Two days we had breakfast in our room! The first day that we did this it was really well organized and presented. However, the second time we did this it was a bit inconsistent. The quality and the presentation of the food wasn’t like first day.

Breakfast Buffet – Lots of variety of food and selection from noodle stations, to bbq pork [depending on day], egg station, salad, and cheeses. However quality of the food is quite average compared to the a’la carte menus you get at lunch and dinner. The reason why we question about quality of breakfast was because it seemed to be not in par with other 5 Star resorts in the area which have now improved their sausage, healthy food choices, and moved on from concentrated or mixed fruit drinks.

A’la Carte Dinner @ Dining Room – This is where they serve breakfast but we decided to try dinner out here. This restaurant serves what you expect at most hotels including Thai food. Tasty, Good, and well prepared… not so busy in the evening as everyone goes to the other restaurant at the beach front

A’la Carte Dinner @ I Sea Restaurant & Bar – Beach front restaurant with nice sea breeze Some international dishes but more focused with seafood. Food is nicely prepared and quality is quite good

SeaFood Buffet I Sea Restaurant & Bar – A bit Pricey for the quality that you are getting but they do serve lots of seafood and if you don’t eat seafood no need to worry because they also have steak, pork, sausages, pasta and other dishes.

Service/Cleaning
Room cleaning was pretty much spot on every time the the cleaning people came in they always made sure to sweep and make up everything as expected. They even made sure to sweep away all the leaves that were continuously falling by our private pool. So props to them.

Service – Everything here was pretty much alright with the exception of our first night at the hotel which is why we are taking one star away since it kind of gave us a bad impression onwards. We kindly asked guest services for amenities, more floor towels since there was leaking, and 8 water bottles as there were 6 of us in the room. The response was may I ask why you need all of these things at this amount? And we also limit the number amount of water we give per room. Which to us was quite insulting especially for this hotel/resort that claims to be 5 star for asking such things when we actually have stated that there was 6 of us and we paid for our additional people. It was as if we were trying to sneak or steal more amenities than we actually need. Also asking for additional water actually shouldn’t have been an issue as it is a basic necessity and is given at all at a five star hotels or resorts especially with Veranda since we’ve never had this issue before with the other two. Anyways we did complain and there were no issues after that and they did delivery everything that was requested with no questions going on forwards.

Pros

Cons
Though this place was just recently renovated a few years ago it is starting to show some sign of aging
Gym and Kids club could use a lot of improvement
Sometimes guest services can be questionable in regards to service
Breakfast quality could be a lot more improved

Tips
Pool Villa rooms choose a room that doesn’t have a tree around as you will deal with leaves falling all day

Recognition
Wanted to give a shout out to the Duty Manager K. Puu and our room buttler as both really tried her best to correct things and make our experience as great as possible.

Summary

Still a great hotel and will always be one of our top 5 choices to stay at in Hua Hin! Beautiful location with a great beach! However there is still lots of room to improve on especially when the competition surrounding them is getting a lot more aggressive when it comes to service and quality.
